He has received numerous awards, including: in 1988, the Alvar Aalto Foundation Gold Medal, the Harvard University Prince of Wales Award and the European Commission of Architecture Award / Mies Van der Rohe Foundation. In 1992 he was awarded the Chicago Hyatt Pritzker Prize for his lifetime work. In 1998, he was awarded the Praemium Imperiale by the Japan Art Association of Tokyo. In 2001, receives the Award by the Wolf Foundation in Israel. In 2002, he received the Golden Lion in Venice (best project) for the Venice Biennale and the 2002 Vitruvio Prize for the Buenos Aires National Bellas Artes Museum.
